March Madness is in full swing, and members of Urban ASAK Elite’s top basketball teams have been well represented in the high school playoffs.
From the 15U team, Tyrone Perry Jr. and Brian Batts Jr., both of LBJ, had a great run before their high school team bowed out of the playoffs last night, one game short of the state tournament. Early last week, they helped lead the Jaguars to an area win over Vista Ridge, which includes three players from the 17U team — Aaron Gregg, Brandon Taylor, and Quenton Taylor.
Other members of the 17U team competing in the post-season included Jelani Shakir of Harker Heights and Antoine Xavier James of Killeen Shoemaker.
And then there was Westlake’s trio of sophomores, who play on the 17U team — Brock Cunningham, Luke Pluymen, and Alex Neahusan. Westlake was playing top-ranked Atascocita in the Elite Eight Saturday afternoon. Cunningham led the Chaps over Dallas Skyline 46-32 Friday night with 15 points and 14 rebounds. He has averaged double figures in each of Westlake’s four playoff games. Both Pluymen and Neahusan have been opportunistic, scoring and rebounding at opportunistic times during the run.
