Even though it is only a year old, the Urban ASAK (Austin-San Antonio-Killeen) program has already become a force in Texas, and even nationally, when it comes to select basketball.
And if the credentials and early results of this year’s teams are any indication, that reputation is safe for another season.
The Elite squad is led by two first team all-state basketball players in Junior Brock Cunningham (6A Austin Westlake) and Shasirae Harvey (5A Austin LBJ). Both the 6-7 Cunningham and 5-10 Harvey led their respective high schools to the Elite Eight in their respective classifications.
“We are the only select basketball program in the state to have two all-staters on our squad,” said Urban ASAK founder Craig Carlton, who along with University of Texas basketball legend Mike Murphy coach the Elite Squad.
However, Cunningham and Harvey won’t be alone in their quest to bring home tournament championships. They are joined by 6-10 Will Baker (currently a sophomore at Westlake) and accomplished other players from San Antonio Reagan, Belton, Lake Travis, Pflugerville Connally, Vista Ridge, Killeen Ellison, and Waco Midway. The 17U Elite team gets an early test right away, playing the New York Lightening (an EYBL team) on March 25 in Houston.
Right behind the Elite squad as a very hungry gold team that has high expectations as well. For more on the roster, visit http://asak.urbanelitebasketball.com/teams/urban-asak-elite-16u-roster/
Last, but not least is the extremely talented Elite 15U squad, which has already won one tournament last weekend in Austin, beating the Houston Defenders (Under Armour) and Houston-based Basketball University (Adidas Gold) along the way.
